Untitled sequel to Spider-Man: In the Spider-Prone is an upcoming American computer-animated superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Miles Morels / Spider-Man, in collaboration with Maria Entertainment, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation Is produced by To be distributed by Sony Pictures release, it will be set in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called “Spider-Word”.
The film is being directed by Joaquim dos Santos, taken from a screenplay by David Callaham, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Shamik Moore voiced Morales, starring alongside Hailey Steinfeld.
Sony started developing a sequel to Spider-Word before the release of that film in 2018, with Dos Santos and Calham attached, and set to focus on the relationship between Morales and Steinfeld Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman Were. The film was officially announced in November 2019, and animation work began in June 2020.
The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 7, 2022, due to a late COVID-19 pandemic from its initial date of April 2022. A female-focused spin-off film is also under development.
By the end of November 2018, before the release of Spider-Man: In the Spider-Word the following month, Sony Pictures Animation had begun development on the film’s sequel, which led to an “unbelievable buzz” surrounding the project The next film was set to continue with Shamik Moore’s work from Miles Morales / Spider-Man, to “Seeds [that] were”. Joachim dos Santos and David Calham were set to direct and write the film respectively, with Amy Pascal returning from the first film as producer.
The other producers of the first film — Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg — all also expected to return for the sequel in some capacity. The following month, Pascal revealed that the film would focus on Morels and Hailey Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy / Spider-Gwen, a romance between two characters cut from the first film. She said the sequel would serve as a “launching pad” for a previously announced female-focused spin-off film starring Steinfeld.
Sony officially confirmed the sequel in November 2019, setting a release date of April 8, 2022. Lord and Miller were confirmed to return as producers. Lord indicated that the film would include “Japanese Spider-Man” from the 1978 Spider-Man series. Sony changed the schedule of the film in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and the film’s release date was 7 October 2022.
In February 2021, Miller revealed that he and Lord Callam were working on the film’s screenplay, and that Peter Ramsy would work as an executive producer for the sequel after co-directing the first film do.
Lord revealed that design work for the new characters in the film had begun by November 2019, comic book artist Krrish Anka later revealed that he was working as a character designer in the film.On June 9, 2020, the film’s lead animator Nick Kondo announced that production had begun.
