Ludo Movie Intro: A leaked sex tape, from a suitcase filled with money to 2 painful murders; Four absolutely random stories run into one another because of luck, coincidence and a cynical criminal. Life has been compared to chess board several times, but these four stories derived from the four colors of Ludo are interesting.
They say that whatever happens isn’t just a coincidence. Many faces strike you within the way of life, behind which there’s a reason, you’re unknown. ‘Ludo’ is additionally the story of some such faces. A dialogue of the film says- “What is a human being? Green, blue, red, yellow pieces on the board of life .. and that they all have their dice up.”
Ludo Movie Story Line: Here four stories run concurrently, which collide with each other at different turns. The first story is of Akash (Aditya Roy Kapur), whose sex tape with his girlfriend Ahana (Sanya Malhotra) has been leaked on the porn site. Ahana is married to someone else in four days. But now this tape creates a stir in the lives of both and Sattu Tripathi comes to get them out of trouble. The second story is of Bittu Tiwari, who was once believed to be the right hand of Sattu Tiwari. But to get home, he broke away from the world of crime.
He now has a full family. But it is said that old deeds never give up. This is the tragedy of his life. The third story is Alok aka Aloo (Rajkummar Rao), who loves Pinky (Fatima) wildly. And in the affair of that love, he goes from theft to murder.
The fourth story is of Rahul and Sreeja. Those who are upset with their lives and jobs. But in a jiffy, luck throws such a dice that the simple flat life of the two becomes unpredictable every moment. And all these stories and all the characters are associated with Don Sattu Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi). The events of Sattu’s life affect all these characters or say that all the pieces are taken to their respective homes.
Ludo Movie Direction: “What is a human being? Green, blue, red, yellow pieces on the board of life .. And all these dice are the hands of the top.” With this idea, Anurag Basu has tried to show different genres simultaneously through four stories. He has also been successful to some extent. The film has comedy, emotion, suspense and plenty of volatility. You may fail to a great extent in anticipating what is going to happen next moment. Can call it a director’s victory .. along with the best actors. But coming at a juncture, ‘Ludo’ reminds me of the 2019 Tamil film ‘Super Deluxe’. The film’s blueprint looks very similar.
Technical aspect: Not only the director, but Anurag Basu has taken up the film’s story, cinematography, screenplay and production. Anurag Basu has his own mark, which appears on Ludo. The script of the film could emotionally connect the audience to the characters even more. But missed by reaching close. Whereas Anurag Basu should be praised for cinematography. The different environments of the four stories and their characters are depicted in a great way. Editing by Ajay Sharma could have cut a few more minutes.
This game of Ludo is two and a half hours long. A tight screenplay could have proved even more effective. The dialogues written by Samrat Chakraborty are excellent in some scenes, while in some scenes listen and average.
Music :The music of the film is given by Pritam, while lyrics are penned by Saeed Qadri, Swanand Kirkire, Shlok Lal and Sandeep Srivastava. The songs of the film have become good. And the great thing is that the songs carry the story forward. In the voice of Arijit Singh, ‘Abad ruin’ is Karnapriya.
What good what bad: The strongest side of the film is its starcast. Every artist has firmly held his character from beginning to end. All four stories are quite interesting. But the factor that pulls the film back is its length. This two and a half hour film is boiled on several occasions.
See or not see:’Ludo’ can be seen once for its tremendous starcast. Its four different stories start off interesting, but slowly get entangled. Therefore, the film’s Climax does not leave an impact. ‘Ludo’ 3 stars from Filmbeat.
